Brazil’s largest-ever communications satellite, Embratel’s Star One D1 has arrived at Arianespace’s French Guiana spaceport for pre-launch preparation.

Built by Space Systems/Loral, the satellite weighs in at 6433 Kgs and will handle TV, radio, voice and data – including Internet. The satellite’s Ku-band enables video transmission services directly to users, along with Internet, data and telephony to remote locations. Star One D1 will be located at 84 degrees West.

But Star One D1 will not be the only ‘passenger’ on the Arianespace rocket. Also aboard will be Japan’s JCSAT-15 which will add to the portfolio of transponders available to SkyPerfect/JSAT and supply TV programming to Japan. JCSAT-15 will go to 110 degrees East.

Both satellites are due for launch around December 20th
