Brazil pay-TV market adds 24,000 customers in September

    Brazil ended September with 18.95 million pay-TV subscribers, an increase of 23,878 (+0.1%) compared to August, according to figures published by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel). However, when compared to the same month in 2015 the number of subscribers was down by 3 percent, or 557,838 subscribers. The penetration rate for pay-TV in September amounted to 27 percent.

    Of the total pay-TV subscribers, 10.8 million used DTH/satellite and 7.8 million cable technology, while there were 212,000 fibre-optic accesses. America Movil (Net/Claro/Embratel) lead with 9.87 million subscribers (52.1% of the total), followed by Sky/AT&T with 5.33 million (28.15%), Telefonica with 1.76 million (9.3%) and Oi with 1.25 million (6.6%).
