Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Jungle Book are among the titles acquired by Canal + for its sub-Saharan Africa TV platform, following a deal with The Walt Disney Company.

Canal Overseas logoCanal + will have first and second window rights across a range of series and movies from Disney, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios and Pixar. Captain America: Civil War and the TV series Black-ish are also among the premium content included in the arrangement.

In addition, the Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior and Disney Cinema will be carried on the Canal+ Overseas platform.

“We are delighted with this agreement, which allows us to offer our African subscribers the excellent productions of Disney studios and major youth channels for all ages. The match between our family audiences and the content developed by Disney makes this an ideal partnership,” said François Deplanck, director of channels and content at Canal+ Overseas.

Disney’s country manager for France, Maghreb and Francophone Africa Jean-François Camilleri added: “We are delighted that two million subscribers in Africa are discovering or rediscovering the great Disney, Pixar, Marvel or Star Wars movies and now have access to all of our Disney channels”.

The Canal+ Overseas platform is available in 25 countries across French-speaking Africa, where it has around two million subscribers.
