Over 705 million viewers watched at least one La Liga football game during the 2015-2016 season, with half of the matches being viewed outside Spain. la liga in numberAccording to a report from the sports market intelligence firm Sportcal, both the quality of the teams and the appeal of worldwide players such as Messi, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo, have driven viewing figures for La Liga through the roof. The TV-focused centralised strategy deployed for the first time last year has also contributed to improving the competitions reach. During the 2015-2016 season, audiences at least doubled, with Spain seeing 94% more viewers to reach 360 million people, China up 113% (52.6 million), the US up 117% (77.8 million), Turkey up 96% (14.1 million) and Egypt up 184% (104 million). Strong growth was also registered in Mexico (up 71%, 13.8 million), Brazil (up 40%, 23.2 million) and the UK (up 69%, 18.3 million). Last season, La Liga programming became key content for most of the worlds leading sports TV networks, such as ESPN, which shows La Liga games across Latin America, and beIN Sports in the US.
