The number of 4K TVs sold in the US in the third quarter more than doubled year-on-year to 2 million units, according to preliminary figures from the industry's Digital Entertainment Group. This brings the total sold to date in the US to 9.9 million. HDTV meanwhile is approaching saturation, with the DEG estimating that 85 percent, or 105.4 million US households own at least one HD TV. Blu-ray playback devices (including set-tops and game consoles) are in nearly 87 million US households.
